(NB: There is a choice between 2 course structures: external and internal)
NCEA Level One English : Internally And Externally Assessed 11ENA, 11ENB, 11ENC
(24 credits: 16 internal, 9 external*)
The externally assessed options offer students a pathway to the more academic year 12 English programmes and to university entrance and limited entry courses at university. These options are both internally and externally assessed. The range of options is both wide enough to offer an exciting range of possibilities in each course with both contemporary written and film texts as well as other texts with established critical reputations. Students can choose one of the following 3 options, all of which have the same assessment structure.
11ENA: War, coming of age, overcoming challenges and true heroism. In this course you will explore language and texts by looking at many of these themes, looking at how the more extreme experiences of life mould and shape our values and perspectives.
11ENB: Relationships, love and tragedy. In this course you will explore language and texts by looking at many of these themes, looking at how the social and personal experiences of our life impact on our beliefs and interpretation of life.
11ENC: Society and what makes us tick. In this course you will explore language and texts by looking at many of these themes, looking at how different perspectives can impact on the way life is experienced.
